Koyasan (left side view) This piece was named after Koyasan (Mount Koya), the sacred Buddhist mountain in Japan, which has been corrupted by secular practices. The quality of “wooden mountain” was the goal. As in all the Baltic Birch pieces, the work unfolds as the viewer walks past: The areas that appear solid when viewed from the left become a mass of open, airy space when viewed from the right. |
