Chicago Chair (study)
1984 | New York City
Acrylic on wood | H: 14.5/37 W: 11/28 D: 10.5/27 (in/cm)

This study was for a piece that was the first runner-up in the outdoor Chicago Sculpture Show competition of October 1986. Its design is based on a truncated triangle module and uses three legs of support in a wedge configuration. There are essentially four scaled-down versions of the same chair situated in the seat of the next, giving a telescopic feel to the whole and pushing the idea of function into symbol. This was the third large-scale sculpture to be constructed in the chair series and was exhibited at the FFA Gallery, Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
